This question comes up a lot in the running community because weight can make a difference. Although, you don’t want to sacrifice to much weight for support. There should be an equal median between weight and support when you are looking for a running shoe.
According to running coach Jack Daniels, a runner expends 1 percent more aerobic energy for every 100 g of weight on a shoe. Live Strong. A researcher at the Nike Research Laboratory calculated that shaving 4 oz. from a shoe would mean a faster marathon time by up to 3 minutes. Live Strong.

Some of the lighter, almost barefoot shoes, weigh about 5.3 ounces. The average running shoe weighs around 10 ounces. Live Strong.
As I said earlier, in order to know what running shoe is for you, you have to be able to have an equal balance with comfort and weight. Obviously you don’t want a clunker on but you don’t want a shoe that hardly weighs anything and gives you no energy in return or shock absorption.
The perfect balance is “a shoe that provides optimum energy return, while not weighing an ounce more than is necessary, is the shoe that will allow you to run as fast as possible without breaking down”. Live Strong.
